01. Food Sensitivities
If you are suffering from gut issues, I would suggest you start with finding your food sensitivities. There are a couple of ways to do this.
The first one is a very traditional method, the elimination diet. Dr. Jessica Drummond highlighted several different foods to eliminate with this method in her book Outsmart Endometriosis. You can download a free e-copy of this book and read more about her elimination diet recommendations.
Another way to discover food sensitivities is testing. You can do this through your doctor or use an at-home testing kit. I used EverlyWell for my food sensitivity testing and was very happy with how fast and in detail my results were. It is super easy and you don't have to go to the doctor's office or a lab to get this test done.
02. Synbiotic
If you have bloating, gas, diarrhea, indigestion, constipation, etc. you would most likely benefit from taking a daily synbiotic.
A synbiotic is a prebiotic combined with a probiotic. Prebiotics and probiotics introduce healthy bacteria to your gut microbiome to help digest your food and ward off harmful bacteria.
When choosing a synbiotic, it is essential to look for one with at least 10 different strains and at least 30 billion AFUs or CFUs. It is also essential to look for a synbiotic that is dairy free and does not contain a bunch of fillers.
Here are a few brands I recommend.
Seed (I currently use this one)
03. Gut Healing Foods
Diet is super duper important when it comes to your gut health. It is crucial that you consume gut-healing foods. Everyone has a different opinion on which food are and aren't good for your gut, it really comes down to you doing your own research on this.
Here are the foods I have consumed or currently consume to heal my gut.
-Sauerkraut (I eat the Brinery)
-Sunchokes (aka Jerusalem Artichokes)
-Bone Broth (FOND is a great brand. don't buy anything in a carton, frozen is honestly best if you buy at the grocery store)
- Kombucha
-Celery Juice
-Coconut Oil
04. Stimulating the Vagus Nerve
The vagus nerve is the longest cranial nerve that runs from our brains all over our body, even our major organs, and digestive system.
There are a few ways to stimulate the vagus nerve
-Eating Fiber
-Get Sunlight
-Be Social
-Laugh
-Meditate
I hope this guide helps you to heal your gut and feel better!
Best of luck!!
